Group test prep and academic tutoring.

More than test prep.

Our approach goes beyond preparing students for the SAT or ACT. At this critical point in their lives, more than anything, students must learn how to believe in themselves and their ability to succeed on anything they put their minds to. Our holistic test prep programs aim to achieve just that: a life long mastery of problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills, with a fantastic standardized test score as an inevitable consequence of the program.

Highly personalized.

We understand that each student comes to us with a unique set of skills and experiences that inform their ability to succeed. Our test prep programs begin with a diagnostic assessment, followed by a detailed dive into the specifics of your student’s strengths and weaknesses. From there, we tailor each and every lesson to meet your student where they are, taking into consideration both what they need to learn and how they learn best, so that we may encourage their success as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Peter's Story
  • "I worked with Mr. Josh. He’s honestly the most patient teacher I’ve ever encountered. He’s the reason why my ACT score keeps increasing, he sees my flaws and helps me improve."

    Student, Holy Ghost Prep, Philadelphia

  • "We’re so happy with the time and effort Josh put in. He knows the material inside and out, makes a connection with kids, and gets results! Some of the material was an initial exposure, so he successfully taught lessons prior to the school doing so. Our Daughter gained 240 points, so this was all worth it. Thanks again, you’ve created some opportunities!"

    Parent, Norwich Free Academy, CT

  • "I worked with Mr. Josh and he was amazing! He taught me stuff that I didn't even know from my math class, and it helped me a lot on the SAT that my score went up to my goal score!"

    Student, Merion Mercy Academy, PA

  • "Mr. Woratyla accompanied a student to a sweet increase in his ACT math score from 22 to 33--a rare accomplishment. This translates to an annual scholarship of about $79,000 a year to a select college. Kudos to Mr. Woratyla and to the success he brings to our interested juniors. I highly recommend him."

    Program Coordinator, Inn Dwelling, Philadelphia

  • "Our son has had a fantastic experience working with Josh. Since starting sessions, his grades have improved, and his confidence has grown too. Josh has a great way of connecting with high school students—he’s patient, encouraging, and knows how to explain things clearly without making it feel overwhelming. We’re really grateful for his support and highly recommend him!"

Parent, The Drew School, San Francisco

  • "My student disliked math and would use apps that gave her the answers just to get homework in this subject over with. I have seen her confidence rise and the disdain for math turn into “it’s not so bad after all.” Thank you Josh!"

Parent, Little Flower High School, Philadelphia

  • "I have had an overwhelmingly positive experience working with Josh at Vertical Prep... Josh was kind and growth-oriented, and struck a fair balance between being student-centric and adhering to high expectations. I am looking forward to receiving my student's scores, as well as continuing to partner with Vertical Prep in the future."

FAQ.

  • The best time to begin prep can vary based on your student’s situation, but typically the summer before junior year leading into the school year is best for most students.

  • The best way to decide which test is right for your student is to have them complete a diagnostic assessment of each test type and compare their scores. Reach out to us at Vertical Prep and we will provide you with instruction for how your student can access our free digital diagnostic assessments. We will then schedule a free consultation call with you to review your student’s results.

  • Test prep programs can last anywhere from 2-3 months to over a year long depending on your students starting point and goal score. It is advised to begin early and to understand that this process takes time for your student to master the skills required in order to achieve success. That being said, we will never advise more sessions than are necessary in order for your student to achieve their goal score.

  • Our current price for new test prep students is $150/hr with a typical weekly session length of 1.5 hours. Please reach out and we will be happy to work with you to craft a program that fits within your budget.

  • Colleges are moving away from test optional practices. New research suggesting that students who submit test scores perform better in college has caused top institutions such as MIT, Stanford, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and many more to reinstate their testing requirements beginning in the years 2024 and 2025. This is setting the trend that many schools across the country are starting to follow. Reach out to us to schedule a free consultation call and we would be happy to review the specific requirements of the schools that your student is considering applying to.

  • Our educators tutor days, nights, and weekends. We will do our absolute best to pair your student with a tutor who is available whenever is most convenient for them.
